NAHJ membership applications
I have received requests for the link for the NAHJ application… here it is! http://members.nahj.org/imispublic/source/members/newmembersignup.cfm?step=1
I’m confident that you are all doing AWESOME!
There is some news I’d like to share with all of you:
We are planning to have the first introductory meeting/workshop at the TV studio to prep for the talk show we have been trying to get started this FRIDAY, February 27 at 3 pm. The studio is located in the first floor of the Alkek Library. We will decide who is wanting to be part of the production committee and have our first production committee the following week. Spread the word about this new talk show… it will be in Spanish and maybe have an English version, but we are going to have auditions to see who has chemistry on the set as hosts and also for anyone wanting to learn how to operate cameras or be in the control room (audion, character generator, teleprompter, technical director, still store, VDR).
A mass e-mail will most likely be sent to every Mass Communication major but if you know of anyone who would like to adquire this experience tell them about it. It would be nice to have a big group so we can have more stories and more productivity.
A video-recording-news-package workshop with a media professional is also in the works for March 27 or 28… I will keep you updated on that.
That’s it for now, hope to see you Friday!!!

February 18th Meeting
NAHJ Texas State members,
There is a meeting this February 18th, Wednesday at 6:30pm in Lampasas 200.
We were going to have Dino Chiecchi as our professional speaker, but due to the Latino Media Conference he is already lined up to present on Thursday 12:30 – 1:30. We are going to still have a meeting but it will be a more informal one so we can all catch up and chat!
As part of hosting next weekend’s Hispanic Media Conference, the SJMC is holding a Dia de la Comunicacion, bringing in guest speakers to discuss issues and trends in Hispanic media. Think of it as a mini-Mass Comm Week with a Latino focus. All sessions will be held in OM 320. Sessions are listed below.
We HIGHLY encourage all of you to attend these events. Look for the flyers on campus!
The Latino Media Conference 2009, February 19-21, see you there!!!
Saludos Cordiales.

Spanish-language talk show
Exciting news!!!
We have gotten permission to use the TV studio room to begin producing our own Spanish-language talk show. We want our show to be about entertainment but still have some formal interviews. If you have any good ideas about what topics we can address for the show COMMENT or SEND ME AN E-MAIL!!!
This project means gaining TV studio experience and we will most likely have auditions for host or hostess. Volunteers for camera crew will be needed. There will be positions available for cameras, a floor director, audio, VDR(rolling of commercials), character generator, telemprompter, stillstore and technical director. If you are interested, we will most likely have a brainstorming of news/teleprompter committee who will be in charge of thinking of new ideas and have new reports ready before production day.
Our goal date for our first production is February 27th and it will be after Studio B so around 3pm.
HOPE YOU’RE AS EXCITED AS WE ARE!!!

First meeting Spring 2009
Hello NAHJ,
Welcome back! Hope you’re all having a great start this 2009!
We will be having our first NAHJ meeting February 4th at 6 PM in LAMPASAS 200.
We are going to have introductions and a quick outline of our semester goals. This introductory meeting will serve to get acquainted with the officers and current members and for the new students to figure out if they are going to truly commit to the organization and its standards.
Our chapter meetings are bi-weekly and will consist of media professionals. We are really considering having socials on the weeks we don’t meet. As some of you know, our main goal is to accumulate enough funds to attend the Annual National Convention in Puerto Rico on June 24-27.
We hope to see many new and familiar faces at the meeting!
